China outlaws the use of skype
Taken from the press China
(SPANISH.CHINA.ORG.CN) - Nearly a few hours after the Information Office of China's State Council report that the number Internet users in the country had risen to 450 million, the Government Beijing has decided to limit the access of Chinese citizens to the services through Internet telephony, like Skype.
The decision, published in the official newspaper Renmin Ribao, is, according to the Government, trade regulation aimed at "fighting the illegal services of internet telephony." However, the proscription would still allow calls from computer to computer, leaving the ban only for calls from computer to phone.
So from now on, calls may only be made online through the networks of both companies approved state telephone: China Unicom and China Telecom, as the Chinese state keeps for itself the monopoly of telephone calls through the network and protects your company from any competition, says Kan Kaili, a professor at the University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing cited by AFP. Skype
increasingly popular among Chinese users, recently announced the launch of its video service for iPhone and iPad. After the banning, residents in China will have to pay up to six times more for making calls abroad with traditional media and will limit the ability of communication of Chinese users.
